World Gin Day – today!

Today, Saturday 10 June, is World Gin Day – so all you gin lovers out there rejoice!

World Gin Day is a global celebration on the second Saturday in June of all things gin related. Now in its ninth year, it’s organised by Gin Monkey and the idea is simple: get people together all around the world with a legitimate excuse to drink some gin, whether it’s in a cocktail, G&T or neat.

Founded by Neil Houston, what started off as a day to bring his friends together to drink gin has grown into a global celebration. In 2013 Emma Stokes, aka Gin Monkey, took over and has been at the helm ever since, driving the day forward and spreading the gin love far and wide.

So, how does that fit in with Towcester? As well as being an independent brewery specialising in real ale, Towcester Mill Brewery’s tap room serves a very impressive 17 different gins! With a wide variety of the traditional gins and speciality flavoured gins on offer, there is most certainly something for everyone. Tap room manager, Sam Milthorpe, said one of the most popular gin cocktails at the moment is the rhubarb gin mixed with ginger ale, “The gin revolution has been amazing – we now offer 17 different gins in our tap room, with flavours ranging from our most popular rhubarb gin to sloe, elderflower and even oriental spice!”

You can also find a wide variety of gins at the Brewery’s shop at the Bell Plantation Garden Centre including Warner Edwards, Foxdenton and Two Birds. It’s a gift paradise too as gin hampers can be made to order depending on budget. Bottles of gin, goblets, tonic water and ginger ale mixers – World Gin Day is a great excuse to check it all out. Cheers!
